Mark Lawrence’s practice was highly experimental ranging from paintings, collage and sculpture to live art film installation. All of Mark’s work, regardless of medium, was an accumulation of clustered colours as he built lines, shapes and marks, all with exceptionally careful precision. In both 2D and 3D work, Mark ensured every colour cluster was positioned in precisely the right space in relation to the other colours around it, yet giving the impression of a wonderfully organic free flowing approach. His immersive film projection works shared a similar energy; a jumble of order and chaos, using himself and his mixed media artworks as props to explore light, movement, colour, shadow and reflection. He filmed the interactions then re-projects the film through multiple projectors to create layered, interactive projection works. Mark shared his performative film explorations through live art installation events.
