Seven artworks by Thompson Hall are acquired by Imperial Health Charity

We are pleased to announce that Imperial Health Charity has acquired six drawings and a painting titled ‘Cocophany of Covid 19’ by Thompson Hall. The artworks are being exhibited in Held in Hope: Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and COVID-19, a permanent exhibition exploring the impact of Covid-19, curated by Imperial Health Charity.

Thompson created this series of works during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. Unable to attend the ActionSpace studio due to lockdowns, Thompson started on a series of drawings at home, responding to the rapidly changing news and social situation. Striking phrases echo those of newspaper headlines from the time. They are surrounded by recognisable symbols, acting as visual references to the medical developments and Thompson’s feelings about the changing news.

Thompson said: “I took ideas from my own personal experiences, from my childhood for example and added them to the political issues that affect everybody in the world. That’s what made me come up with this body of work, covering everything, not just the pandemic. It was more about what will we face after it is over, and looking at how unequal society will be. How will the pandemic change things?”

 
Installed across Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary’s hospitals – all part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust – the displays utilise a range of mediums, including photography, painting, and drawing. Exhibiting artists include Susie Hamilton, Hannah Deller, Bindi Vora, Keith Jarrett, Aida Silvestri and Thompson Hall. Held in Hope showcases the work of the six artists and reflects on their personal feelings, as well as the way the pandemic shaped society.

The permanent exhibition can be viewed on the second floor of Charing Cross Hospital next to the restaurant, on the walls of the restaurant corridor at Hammersmith Hospital and on the second floor of the QEQM building at St Mary’s Hospital.
